Class Descriptions Pre-Natal Yoga
Prenatal yoga is the ideal way to stay in shape during pregnancy. Yoga Universe's classes offer this age-old practice to increase flexibility, tone your muscles, and improve your balance and circulation. Many of the common elements of pregnancy such as nausea and tiredness are helped through the physical aspect of this class. Specific asanas for opening the hips, strengthening the pelvic floor and positioning you for birth will be practiced. You will engage in relaxation practices and classes will also focus on breathing, which is important for the physical demands of your labor, childbirth and motherhood.
In all of our prenatal yoga classes you will be able to share and explore your thoughts and concerns about your pregnancy with other moms-to-be. Post-Natal Yoga
Our postnatal yoga classes are designed to help women regain strength and much needed energy. Each session focuses on rebuilding strength in the abdomen, back and pelvic muscle. Special attention will be focused on releasing tension in the shoulders and neck, and opening the chest. Moms are welcome to bring their babies and are encouraged to share anything and everything they are feeling in this new stage of their lives.

Beginner Yoga
Yoga Universe's beginner classes offer students an opportunity to explore yoga and its physical and emotional benefits. Students gain insight into basic yoga philosophy. Instruction includes introduction to asanas, proper alignment, meditation, breathing techniques and relaxation. These slow paced classes are great for all beginners and anyone needing restorative yoga.
Intermediate and advanced students are welcome to join if they want a nice, gentle practice. Among the benefits students receive in the beginner yoga series are weight loss, alleviation of chronic pain, ease of depression symptoms, and sense of empowerment and equanimity. These classes (proven in medical studies) are effective as complementary treatments for many conditions such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, asthma and anxiety. Every class builds on the knowledge gained from the previous class. This allows students to delve deeply into the experience of yoga and, thus themselves. | |||||

Multi-Level Classes
The most unique yoga class anywhere, our dual instruction makes the multi-level class work for any level student with any knowledge of yoga. Based in the Hatha and Vinyasa disciplines students discover ways and deeper meanings of the mind, body, and spirit connection. Through a balance of stillness and flowing movements the body and mind strengthen from the inside out. Proper breathing leads the practice and attention is given to flexibility, strength building, body alignment, opening of the spine, hips and shoulders and balance.
Modifications and use of props are encouraged to suit every student's level. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and gain all the well-being yoga has to offer. Instructors offer visual leading and hands on help with asanas. Open for all levels. | |||||

Chair Yoga
Yoga Universe offers this low-impact exercise solution developed through many styles of Hatha Yoga. This system was specifically created to address the needs of people who may not be so steady on their feet, who may have knee, hips, spine, or shoulder problems, or who are over the age of 55 and seeking greater flexibility and strength. This discipline speaks to the needs of any person suffering from trauma, disease, and physical handicaps helping the quality of life at any age or fitness level.
The postures and low-impact movements lubricate the connective tissue, as well as reducing friction occurring in the joints. Toning of the body is the natural result of the stretching and flexing of the muscles. Movements that require bending and twisting motions massage the internal organs improving digestion and elimination. Proper posture and a continual focus on alignment relieves spinal difficulties. Proper breathing techniques help students deal with stress. Deep breathing oxygenates the blood helping to improve high blood pressure. Deeper breathing has a calming effect on the mind and body. The many benefits of learning to relax and meditate are plentiful. | |||||
